Revue d'économie industrielle

Notice créée le 27/08/2013, Notice révisée le 30/08/2013
evue-d-economie-industrielle

  • > Evaluating the impact of public policies on large firms: A synthetic control approach to science-industry transfer policies

In most countries, large companies receive the majority of public research and development (R&D) funding. Due to methodological difficulties, however, assessments on the effect of government-funded R&D programs mainly focus on small- and medium-sized enterprises. To evaluate the impact of a specific innovation policy on large companies, this article suggests using the synthetic control method (SCM), initially developed by Abadie et al. (2010). This method is applied to evaluate the impact of ...

  • > The economics of frugal innovation: An integrative literature review

The aim of this article is to describe the economic implications of frugal innovations using an integrative literature review. This article discusses the definition of frugal innovations from a historical perspective, depicting them as innovations of transformative change and analyzing frugal innovations in terms of the social and environmental context. It identifies implications for Global North countries wishing to market new frugal products. The authors suggest analyzing technological frug...

  • > Patent intermediaries: Between the technology market and the intellectual property market

    1. Introduction

In this book, Benassi and Martin-Sanchez offer an original and thorough analysis of the role of patent intermediaries in the genesis, maintenance and development of a market for patents. These patent intermediaries would be in the process of re-emerging after a first phase of appearance in the middle of the nineteenth century, following the separation between inventors and the owners of industrial property titles (Lamoreaux and Sokoloff, 2002). This market for technology...

  • > Environmental policy and the direction of innovation towards products or processes: Insights from text mining techniques applied to wind power patents

In the framework of the European Green Deal, which aims to steer research and innovation toward climate neutrality, this article studies the extent to which different types of policies (direct and/or indirect) supporting renewable sources of energy can guide research and development (R&D) efforts toward process or product innovations. To this end, it proposes a new method for automatically analyzing whether a patent is a product or a process. More precisely, it proposes a semantic analysis of...

  • > Economic evaluation of autonomous passenger transportation services: a systematic review and meta-analysis of simulation studies

In order to prepare for their deployment, mobility simulations have been used since the mid-2010s to investigate the effects of Autonomous Vehicles (AV) services. The aim of this study is to provide a review of which impacts were considered in simulation studies, to what extent, and for which results, with an emphasis on economic impacts. Taking cost-benefit analysis (CBA) as a reference framework for the economic evaluation of mobility services, we first establish a list of standard impact i...

  • > How to be a good forerunner in carbon neutral trucking

EU countries want to decarbonize their road freight transport quickly. Long-haul electric trucks are a promising technology. There are several competing designs but at present the trade-off is between e-trucks with very large batteries and e-trucks with a smaller battery but combined with motorways electrified via catenary lines. In the latter case a combination of public investment (catenary lines on major motorways) and private investment (electric trucks) is required. As long-haul truck tr...

  • > Modeling electric vehicle charging patterns: A review

Electric vehicles (EVs) offer an opportunity to move towards greenhouse gas emission reduction targets by decarbonizing the transport sector as well as reduce local air pollution. However, uncontrolled and simultaneous charging of a significant number of EVs could pose a challenge to electricity grids and generation-load adequacy. Studying these impacts requires a predictive model of EV fleet recharging. Here we review techniques for EV charging pattern modeling and the types of studies they ...

  • > Incentives for modal shift towards sustainable mobility solutions: A review

Despite its advantages, road transport generates negative externalities. To reduce them, the use of single-occupant vehicles (SOVs) must be limited to promote other transport modes (active modes, public transport and shared mobility). This paper aims to examine the economic and non-economic incentives (as persuasive technologies and psychological factors) for a modal shift to sustainable mobility solutions. The independent application of these two types of measures has revealed effectiveness ...
