EJTS is a peer-reviewed, indexed, open access international journal that aims to be a valuable research instrument for scholars in the humanities and social sciences working in Turkish Studies. Our premise is that area studies can serve as a ‘laboratory’ for developing theoretical tools that stimulate research in social sciences and humanities, hence the double requirement of an innovative theoretical framework and in-depth empirical knowledge. This also provides room for comparative approaches that may help crisscross area studies. The choice of approach emphasizes a diversity of methodologies as well as variation in the scale of analyses. In practice, the orientation of the journal reflects the backgrounds of the members of the Editorial Board. Published disciplines include anthropology, history, political science, sociology, and geography. In order to facilitate broader communication and exchange of ideas, the journal is international in character. In a manner consistent with its geographical and/or institutional rooting, the journal publishes in English, French, German, and Turkish.

Publication Framework

EJTS publishes two thematic issues a year. These issues are set up by the Editorial Board and/or by Guest Editors. Calls for papers are published in the journal on a regular basis, but unsolicited proposals for thematic issues are welcome. If interested in becoming an EJTS Guest Editor, more detailed guidelines for Guest Editors are available for you here.

In addition, stand-alone articles not related to any thematic issue are also considered for publication.

Junior scholars as well as more seasoned ones are welcome to submit manuscripts.

EJTS also publishes (though not on a regular basis) book reviews. Particular attention is given to scholarship published in Turkish, which is often less well-known outside Turkey. Featured reviews may also be submitted for publication.

Review Process

In keeping with established scholarly standards, each submission to EJTS will be reviewed anonymously by several members of the Editorial Board and by two external referees (double-blind review). Reviewers will recommend the rejection, acceptance, or revision of the submitted paper. Their comments will be shared with the authors of submitted manuscripts.

The average review schedule requires 24 weeks for accepted submissions to be processed through publication.
