Since Algerian independence, migration has constituted one of the major elements of Franco-Algerian relations. The issue provides an analysis of the situation of Algerian immigration to France and its evolution over the course of five decades but also the issues of memory, the representation of algerian immigrants and their descendants in French society, and finally the cultural and artistic tenets that are linked to their presence in France. A ‘community of destiny’ progressively weaves itself, producing a mixed cultural space from the mediteranean as well as other backgrounds. In september, the review will be publishing an issue focusing on the consequences of the emigration on Algerian society.
