Moi, je ne demande pas à rentrer dans une taille 36

Recourir à la chirurgie bariatrique après 45 ans
« I Don’t Wish to Wear XS ». Resorting to Weight Loss Surgery after Age 45
Olivier Lepiller
p. 235-255

Weight loss surgery has been growing rapidly in France in recent years. 83% of the persons who had an operation are women. This paper accounts for a qualitative study on women aged over 45, based on interviews conducted the day before the operation. To understand the differentiated recourse to surgery according to sex, the expected benefits are analyzed, relying these ones to the feminine roles. We also paid attention to the normative pressures over food and the body through the respondents’ biographies. The paper highlights the importance, in deciding the surgery, of a norm of joint control over food and corpulence. This norm is coupled to an injunction to care roles that takes over the aesthetic injunction, which has become secondary to the respondents.
