Published by Presses Universitaires de Saint-Étienne, Focales was founded in 2017 and is dedicated to the study of photography and its practices—both within the field of photography and in society as a whole—from a variety of social science perspectives. Its annual themed issues also include general articles, book reviews, interviews, and portfolios. Focales is an exclusively open-access journal and is joining OpenEdition with all of its issues.
