The journal, its mission, and scope

The Anuário Antropológico (AA) is a journal of the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology at the University of Brasília (PPGAS/UnB), published continuously and aligned with the open science regime under the IDEIA principles – Impact, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. The journal is rated A2 by QUALIS/CAPES.

Its mission is to communicate ethnographic and ethnological knowledge in order to foster academic debate and advance the epistemology of anthropology. Founded in 1976 by Professor Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira, it is one of the oldest anthropology journals in Brazil. The first issue was released in 1977, the same year the PPGAS/UnB was created. Although its home has always been the University of Brasília (UnB), the "Anuário Antropológico" was established as a national journal with international projection. Since its inception, it has included contributions from colleagues in other countries, primarily from Latin America.

The editorial dynamics and structure of the journal respond to its regulations, updated by the PPGAS/UnB board in a meeting on July 17, 2023. This is an open-access journal, meaning that all content is freely available without charge for the user or their institution. Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without needing prior permission from the editor or author.
