La crise du parti nationaliste (PRNS, successeur des Jeunesses Patriotes) à la fin des années trente

Jean Philippet
p. 79-93

Abstracts

The crisis of the nationalist party at the end of the thirties For the National and Social Republican Party (PRNS), which succeeds to the Jeunesses Patriotes and last direct descendant of the old Ligue des Patriotes, the last years of the Third republic were characterised by decay. Unsuccessful in its attemps to unite the right wing parties through the National Front and then the Liberty Front, Taittinger was no more successful in its strategy to evade Colonel de la Roque. The Munich humiliation confirms the death of a social defence nationalism compromised by pacifist campaigns with strong leanings towards fascist regimes. Deeply divided between those in favour of a parliamentary line including an alliance with the radicals and those who wanted a National Revolution following the example of neighbouring countries, the PRNS and the LDP were disbanded in June 1940, leaving an unclaimed heritage when the Liberation occurred.
