Texte intégral

1Awḥaduddīn Rāzī, a relatively unknown scholar of the 7th/13th century, probably lived and worked in north western Iran. He was a philosopher and physician who also composed poems. His Ḥakīm-nāma is a philosophical allegory dedicated to Šamsuddīn Juvaynī (executed in 717/1282). In a dialogue between the human soul and the Universal Intellect all major issues concerning the destination of the human soul and the ways to fulfil this destination are elucidated, combining elements taken from different intellectual doctrines ranging from philosophy to Sufism and medicine. Pourjavady presents the work and its author through a substantial Persian and a slightly more condensed English Introduction and situates it within its literary context by adding a number of poems by Awḥaduddīn Rāzī as well as other writers such as Suhravardī, Kermānī and Ṭūsī.
