1Towfīq Sobḥānī’s foreword (pp. i-viii) briefly introduces the history of the peregrinations of Kalīle va Demne and its Persian versions. A table of correspondences for the page numbers of Anvār-e soheylī and the Šekarestān (pp. ix-xviii) is followed by the prefatory remarks of Abū al-Faḍl Keyhān, written in esfand 1323/1945 (pp. xix-xxii). The present editor, Ḫāk-nežād, provides an introduction (pp. xxiii-xxxiv) to the poet “Ḫosrow”, a descendant of Fatḥ-‘Alī Šāh (born 1310 h.q./1892), who composed this poem of 10,230 lines, beginning in 1320/1941. He worked on it for three and one-half years, completing it, according to the colophon, in the month of šahrīvar in the year 1363 h.q./1944 (pp. 468-9). It is perhaps the last versified rendition of the Anvār-e soheylī in Persian.

2The poem is largely faithful to Kāšefī’s prose version, adding a few additional stories or topical events from the life of Amīr Ḫosrow Dārā’ī. It demonstrates a surprisingly strong poetic talent and literary appeal, which indeed deserves to be better known, and the text is usefully supplemented by an extensive glossary (pp. 471-509), a list of Qur’anic citations (pp. 510-11) and a list of ḥadīṯ cited (p. 513).
