1In 2003-2004, excavations in Artaxata, in Armenia, brought to light, under walls of the early Medieval period, a structure made in bricks with dove-tail clamps, containing sherds, bricks, tesserae of a mosaic and tiles dated to the 1st-4th centuries AD. Despite the chronology of this filling, the technique of the building allows the Author to antedate the foundation of the complex to the 3rd-2nd centuries BC while its position in the NE part of the Roman city seems to suggest that it was originally located outside the former Hellenistic city. Both these remarks could relate the unearthed building to an extra muros temple of Apollon-Tyr, witnessed by ancient sources. These remarks will be confirmed by further research.
