1The political situation of Iran after the second of khordad i.e. the day when for the first time the present reformist president of the Islamic Republic was elected is still of interest to the political and cultural analysts in Iran and even abroad.

2This book include seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the nature of the present political system of Iran being described as an authoritarian regime. The second chapter analyses the situation and position of the political wings of the present regime of Iran after the second of khordad. In the third chapter attention has been paid to the Iranian opposition in the period concerned. Fourth chapter is dealing with the nature of the political groupings within the regime in contemporary Iran. Fifth chapter is a critical evaluation of the social and cultural aspects of Rafsanjani period which was named by him as Reconstruction period of the Islamic Revolution. Some of the aspects of the present protest movement in Iran form the subject of the sixth chapter. The last chapter is the paper which the author presented to the famous Berlin Conference in April 2000. The title of this paper is ‘The Crisis of Discourse in Contemporary Iran’.
