1Sketch of Middle Persian morphology based mainly on Book Pahlavi and 7th cent. documents. A short description of nominal and verbal inflection (with a noteworthy list of secondary past stems) as well as of the other parts of speech is followed by a rather detailed outline of word formation (esp. of the nominal prefixes and suffixes still living in Pahlavi). It is of particular value, although a number of points upon historically oriented examination must be judged differently after all on the basis of the Old Iranian data. Only one of the obvious oversights may be quoted: the sandhi variant of the prefix duš- of course is not duǰ-, but duž- (even if written dwj- in the Manichaean script).
