Texte intégral

The present book contains the proceedings of a conference held in Rome in 2019, co-organised by the University “La Sapienza”, the Multilingualism Multilingualism Research Group (Vienna), the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the ISMEO Association, and the Norwegian Institute of Philology.

Among the 18 articles, most of which discuss phenomena in ancient Indo-European languages, the following treat Iranian data: Velizar Sadovski analyses names and epithets containing Iranian *miyazda- and their implications for morphosyntax and phraseology (p. 289-304), Paolo Milizia discusses the expression of comparatives and superlatives in Avestan compounds (p. 199-213), and Flavia Pompeo treats the semantics of Old Persian duruj-, which oscillate between ‘deceive’ and ‘lie’ (p. 255-271).

Old Iranian is also mentioned in the article on reduplication in ancient Indo-European languages by Paolo di Giovine (p. 111-119) as well as by Maria Carmela Benvenuto in her discussion of a probably Iranian term for a garment found in Aramaic (p. 27-41). Juan Antonio Álvarez-Pedrosa investigates the language use of Parthian royal hostages in Rome (p. 11-26) and Marco Mancini the 3rd singular pronoun ‑H contained in Middle Persian Arameograms (p. 149-182).

Concerning the modern languages, Ela Filippone presents possible cases of sound symbolism in terms for body parts found in many Iranian languages and dialects (p. 121-147), and Adriano Rossi offers a new discussion of word-final ‑nk in Balochi.
