Texte intégral

1Olbrycht focused on the so-called and long-time debated “Dark Age” of Parthia, a period between Mithridates II’s and Phraates III’s rule, 87-69 BC where the list of Arsacid rulers is still not enough clear mainly due to the fact that the main sources for the period, that is to say, the coins minted by each ruler present exclusively the crowning title of Arsaces making it difficult to distinguish among the various pretenders to the throne. Olbrycht proposed to take into consideration the rulers' headgear as they appear in their coins. According to his interpretation, a portrait with a tiara would represent a ruling Great King, while one with a diadem would indicate a co-ruler or a young heir designated to the throne ready to wear his predecessor's tiara once secured the throne.
