Les «Desaix»
Abstracts
The Desaix’s
The liberalities bestowed on the Desaix family during the Consulate and Empire (titles, pensions, coats of arms) are a reminder of the moral debt contracted by Bonaparte at Marengo vis-à-vis one of his best generals. They are also in keeping with the practices of the ancien regime, to which generations of the same ligneage had given loyal service, as close scrutiny of the family tree reveals. His conversion to serving the Republic underscores once more Louis Charles Antoine’s originality and sense of honour.
