The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) is part the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo (AUC). Its mission is to pursue and deepen the scientific research production about refugee and migration movements in the Middle East and North Africa.
In order to achieve this goal, CMRS:
- offers two graduate degrees (MA & Diploma in Migration and Refugee Studies) and a variety of short courses, professional development courses and certificates
- collaborates with local and international academic institutions and non-governmental organizations on numerous research programs
- publishes Working papers, Country Case Studies, and Research reports.
In addition, over the years the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies put together an interesting collection of grey literature (unpublished reports, handbooks, conference materials, rare journal articles) housed in the AUC Library. Easily searchable in the AUC library catalogue selecting the "MRC" (Migration and Refugee Collections) location. The CMRS grey files collection is only available by consultation.
Last, CMRS hosts a Seminar series bringing to AUC speakers from institutions and organizations all over the world, aiming at "raising awareness about migration and refugee issues among a wider audience."
It is possible to follow the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies activities through their Facebook profile, YouTube channel, and Twitter account.
