Amerika arises out of the perceived dearth of and need for an outlet for academic debate and dissemination of interdisciplinary research on the Americas from the 19th century through to the 21st century.
Thus our e-journal aims to provide a forum for discussion on the culture, history, language, sociology of a geographical area while at the same time taking account of the effects of globalisation. Latin America is present, not only physically from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego, including the Caribbean zone, but thrives also in the United States, in Europe and on the other continents.
Amerika is a semestrial review of the CELLAM (Ancient and Modern Language and Literature Studies Center, EA 3206, Rennes 2 University); which publishes thematic and multidisciplinary dossiers about the problematic of memories, identity and cultures in the Americas (english, spanish, french and portuguese-speaking). The review wants to be the meeting place for debating the interpretation conflicts about American’s people singularity, in a space with moving and porous borders. Its principal domain of interest is Americas since the XIXth century, but also considers diachronic points of view, if their departing point is present time.
Past experience in organising seminars, conferences workshops and symposia has provided convincing evidence of the topicality and pertinence of these themes.
Amerika encourages scholars from around the world with similar interests to make contributions to this international research and debate. Articles may be in English, Spanish, French or Portuguese.
All new initiatives represent a challenge and an adventure. We accept the challenge. Let the adventure commence.
