Introduction
The survey project, which started in 2016 within the borders of the Tunceli province, is aimed at gathering data in order to understand how the Iron Age began in the Tunceli region, which cultural factors it can be identified by, what innovations were brought by the Urartian Kingdom’s expansion into the region, which routes or roads were used during the Urartian Period, what did the Urartian settlements look like, possible open-air spaces of worship, local sources of minerals during the Iron Age, and to what level they were processed. Additional goals of this survey include obtaining artifacts related to the cultural changes which occurred after the fall of the Urartian dominance and understanding how the Late Iron Age and the Hellenistic Period were reflected in the material culture of the region.
