Welcome to the introduction of the special series of Angles: New Perspectives on the Anglophone World, entitled “The Pioneers of TransAmerican Art: In the Footsteps of a Caribbean Diaspora Aesthetic.”
When we think about the Caribbean Diaspora in the Americas and across the Atlantic in Europe, we consider Caribbean people and communities who have traversed borders, transcended boundaries (geographically, historically, and culturally), and have, through various methods, invented a Caribbean Diaspora aesthetic.
The Caribbean Diaspora aesthetic is a set of unique pathways and cultural responses over periods of time and locations.
Pioneers of this Caribbean Diaspora aesthetic are culture bearers such as artists, film makers, creatives, community activists, individuals, and scholars.
Contributors to this special series focus on the pioneers of a Caribbean Diaspora Aesthetic, and what it means to be part of a TransAmerican Arts movement.
