ARTIST’S VOICE

Native Genocide #2

Native Genocide #2

Medium - M/M on paper (Collage, screen print versus Acrylic); Dimensions - 12x12

Robert A. Joyette Sutherland, 2024

1“Native Genocide #2” focuses on the long, and very challenging conditions leading to the first Indigenous war in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for Indigenous Caribbean rights. This piece envisions the past, present, and future. I use quotidian objects, texts, paintings, and architecture with constructivist designs, juxtaposed, and subtly reversed. I alter objects, detached from their everyday functions, creating new contexts. My works are deconstructed to the extent that meanings shift, and interpretations displaced – protean and multifaceted.
