Varia

The new issue of the Annales Islamologiques brings together six papers in a free section (varia). They cover the disciplinary and chronological fields defined by the editorial line of the journal.

In addition, the journal includes a special dossier on ‘acts of protection’ that comprises a collection of studies of acts of protection – specific instances in which protection is offered, enforced, requested, or accepted  – in different contexts within and on the fringes of the early Islamic empire. In nine case studies, literary scholars and historians examine various mechanisms of social protection, based on literary and documentary sources in Arabic, Bactrian, Coptic, Pahlavi and Persian, and covering a variety of contexts such as early Islamic Arabia, eighth-century Egypt, Iraq and Sogdiana, as well as twelfth-century Afghanistan and Iran.
