Varia

From the 10th to the 16th century, the militarization of power and society increased in the Islamic world. This dossier, which is part of the work carried out at IFAO around a view of war as a social and cultural phenomenon, aims to contribute to a better understanding of the modalities of this militarization. The studies presented here deal with the spatial dimension of war, which has been largely neglected by researchers. They shed light not only on the way in which populations perceived and experienced war, but also how it could configure or reconfigure spaces, in particular urban spaces, in the Iberian Peninsula, in the Maghreb, in Egypt and in the whole of the Near East.

This issue of the Annales Islamologiques brings together five papers in a free section (varia). They cover the disciplinary and chronological fields defined by the editorial line of the journal.
