Footnotes

Footnotes should be used only when strictly necessary and ought to be kept short.

Referenced-to items that should appear in a footnote but not in the References include:

• newspapers, magazines, press agency releases;

• websites, when the reference does not point to a specific item but to the website as such;

• archival documents;

• field interviews or diaries.

Quotations

Use double quotation marks round quotes less than three lines long [e.g. “text”], and run these in the text.

Quotes of more than three lines must be placed in a separate paragraph, without quotation marks (font size 10-point).

Use double quotation marks for emphasis.

Do not italicise quotes.

Quotes within quotes must be distinguished by single quotation marks [e.g. ‘text’].

Gender-inclusive language | Linguaggio di genere ampio

English

Gender-inclusive language uses terms that are more gender equitable. When describing a generic or hypothetical person whose gender is irrelevant to the context of the usage, do not use gendered pronouns such as “he” and “she” or gendered pronoun combinations such as “he or she” or “s/he” because these pronouns and pronoun combinations assume gender and a gender binary. Instead, use the singular “they” because it is gender inclusive.

Anuac incoraggia le persone che intendono proporre i propri lavori a fare uso di un linguaggio ampio o inclusivo al posto del maschile sovraesteso attraverso alternative ormai consolidate, quali:

- uso del maschile e del femminile, es. i ricercatori e le ricercatrici;

-  uso di forme neutre, es. i lettori -> chi legge, le persone che leggono; 

- l’uso dell'indicazione della desinenza -e/i/*

- uso dell'asterisco (*) o della schwa (ə)

- uso del femminile sovraesteso
