Each annual issue of Archéologie médiévale includes five or six articles on recent aspects of French or foreign archaeological research.
It also delivers a chronicle of medieval and post-medieval excavations carried out in France during the preceding year. This chronicle includes six chapters: rural and urban settlements, fortifications, religious sites, craft workshops, cemeteries and underwater archaeology.
A “Bulletin critique” brings together reviews and short reviews.
All articles, illustrated with drawings, black and white and colour photos, are published in French and are preceded by abstracts in German, English and French and by keywords in three languages.
Archéologie médiévale was first published by the Centre de recherches archéologiques médiévales (University of Caen, nr 1 to 12). Since 1982, the journal was published by the CNRS and then by CNRS Editions.

Old volumes are accessible on Persée platform.
