Beer, wine, brandy, liqueur... Alcoholic beverages have always been multiple and so have the ways of consuming them, while the image that society has of alcohol consumers oscillates between the best and the worst. What facilities and containers were invented to ensure fermentation, distillation and conservation? How are recipes created, perpetuated and refined? What elements are used in the composition of these drinks and what properties do they have or not? Was the alcohol produced to be consumed quickly or could it be kept? What archaeological evidence can be used to assess the quantities and qualities produced? Archaeological remains and furniture allow us to take account of the diversity of use and the evolution of taste. We distinguish the ways in which the production and consumption of certain alcohols were reserved or limited to a particular type of event (ritual, festival, meal, illness, etc.), a social class, a gender or a region.
