Abstract
The fequency-domain electromagnetic induction (FD-EMI) method measures the electrical conductivity. This parameter reflects the ease with which an electrical-current can flow through a material. Measuring this parameter is particularly interesting for geomorphological issues, as it is mainly linked to the clay content of soils, as well as their moisture content. Clay is a good conductor, whereas sand and gravel are more resistant. Consequently, this parameter enables us to distinguish different sedimentary units. As a general rule, the more conductive the soil, the higher its clay content. The salinity of the solute contained in soils also plays an important role, significantly increasing conductivity, which is are center of matter here in an intertidal context (Scollar et al., 1990).
