Introduction
Presenting gridded 3-dimensional GPR data as a series of planar amplitude time slices requires the optimum vertical integration or “thickness” of each slice to be chosen for the data set. While the theoretical vertical resolution of a GPR system can be defined from the wavelength of the radar wavelet this may not, necessarily, be used to govern the thickness of the individual time slices (Annan & Cosway, 1992; Daniels, 2004). Further considerations may include the means of visualisation, for example a multi-frame animation compared to a more limited number of time slice images presented in a static report. A more subjective selection of individual time slices or an increased vertical integration across “thicker” time slices can be used to represent the data set, perhaps at the expense of vertical resolution and the ability to identify very subtle anomalies. In addition...
