1. Introduction
The research on Adriatic amphorae, started in 1990 by our archaeological research team, is a joined project between Department of Cultural Heritage and the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua, and was recently implemented by the archaeometric study within the project “The Adriatic amphorae productions in Roman Republic and Imperial Times” (Le produzioni adriatiche di anfore dall’età repubblicana all’età imperiali), financially supported in 2016-2017 by the Department of Cultural Heritage.
The main aim of this research was to define the provenance of the Dressel 6A wine amphorae, the Dressel 6B oil amphorae and the funnel neck amphorae. These types of amphorae have been found in large quantities in drain work contexts in numerous areas of north-eastern Italy (Cipriano & Mazzocchin, 2011).
