Co-founding editor Olivier Walther leaves Articulo – Journal of Urban Research (JUR)

Olivier Walther, one of Articulo’s longest standing co-editors, has taken on new roles in his academic career and resigned from the editorial board before this year’s summer break.

10 years ago, Olivier Walther, Samuel Carpentier, Roger Romer and Laurent Matthey started with an idea that turned into a fruitful platform to encourage critical dialogues among urban scholars. When I joined this journal as a co-editor in 2013, Olivier would assign me chiefly to the task of listing JUR with Scopus. Quite typical for him, he had this ambitious goal and – despite drawbacks and unforeseen obstacles along the way – steadily and passionately worked towards it. Yet, not alone. His specific talent to form a bunch of people into a coherent team contributed to the success our independent journal eventually enjoyed. Olivier also was always a visionary for JUR. Early on he realised the need to position Articulo beyond the initially targeted, predominantly French speaking academic world. His ardent dedication to broaden the journal’s readership to play a future role in the urban research open access publication landscape was the foundation for this journal’s current recognition. Heading for new shores, we are honoured to further rely on Olivier’s experience and advice as he will remain honorary member of JUR’s board. We thank him and wish him well for his future undertakings.

Sabine Dörry, on behalf of the editorial board
