Following the passing of John Swales in March 2025, the journal ASp is preparing a special issue dedicated to one of the most influential pioneers in genre theory and analysis. We invite scholars at all stages of their careers to submit proposals to the editors.
Manuscripts (in English only) may explore genre theory and analysis across a wide range of specialized contexts. Contributions may address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
-
Scholarly discussions of the concept of genre, including critical approaches to genre theory;
-
Analyses of conventional or emerging, unconventional genres and discourse communities in specialized contexts;
-
Practical approaches to genres, including the use of specialized genres in teaching and learning contexts;
-
Specialized genres and translation issues.
The journal ASp publishes papers in different formats: research articles (8,000 words, double-blind reviewing), research notes (4,000 words, internal reviewing), teaching practices papers (4,000 words, internal reviewing), as well as book reviews.
Submitted manuscripts should follow the style guidelines published in The Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition).
