Evaluation Procedure for Reports

The journal BAEFE publishes archaeological reports that account for the scientific and heritage activities carried out by French institutions abroad, in close collaboration with the relevant local authorities. These notices, which reflect fieldwork and ongoing research, are subject to a specific evaluation procedure adapted to their nature and purpose.

Submission and Formal Review

Authors submit their notices in accordance with the editorial guidelines (text formatting, illustrations, data, references). The Editorial Committee verifies formal compliance and ensures that the content is consistent with the editorial policy of BAEFE.

Evaluation by Institutional Editorial Committees and Local Authorities

The notices are reviewed by the Reading Committee, and in particular by the directors of the archaeological institutions responsible for the missions, in consultation with the competent local authorities in the host country. This dual expertise ensures:

  • the scientific and methodological rigor of the information,

  • the accuracy of the documentation,

  • compliance with the applicable legal frameworks,

  • the relevance of the proposed interpretations.

Revisions and Scientific Dialogue

The Editorial and Reading Committees, possibly in collaboration with local partners, may request additions or revisions (clarifications, further details, updated data). Authors are given a set deadline to incorporate these recommendations and submit a revised version.

Validation and Final Decision

The decision to publish is made by the editorial and reading committees. This procedure ensures that each report faithfully reflects fieldwork, meets scientific and heritage standards, and contributes to the shared promotion of research.

Editing and Publication

Validated reports are proofread at the editorial level (language, layout, illustrations) before being put online and printed. The author is involved in approving the final version.

*

This evaluation procedure, conducted jointly by the French archaeological institutions (EFA, EFR, IFAO, EFEO, and CVZ) and the competent local authorities, ensures both scientific quality, institutional legitimacy, and respect for the heritage frameworks in which the missions are carried out.
