Orthodox Christianity of Russia and Ukraine in Southeastern Europe: Transfers, Interactions, Conflicts
Edited by Detelina Tocheva
What is the relationship between Orthodox Christianity in Russia and Ukraine and that in Southeastern Europe? While this question arose in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine launched in 2022 and following the granting of autocephaly to the new Orthodox Church of Ukraine in 2019, the articles take a step back from these events. The case studies gathered here, ranging from Transylvania to Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria, from the end of the 17th century to the year 2025, bear witness to the necessarily selective receptions, appropriations, adaptations but also rejections of different expressions of Orthodoxy of Russia and Ukraine.
