Presentation

The Bulletin de l’Institut français d’archéologie orientale (BIFAO) is a periodical founded in 1901 by the Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) in Cairo. It publishes studies, in French, English and German, illustrating the most recent developments in the area of Egyptology, covering the various fields in that discipline (history, archaeology, art, philology, religion, etc.), from the Prehistoric period to the end of the Byzantine Period in Egypt.

The journal publishes articles of any length, including those with extensive illustrations, as well as editions of texts and objects, making it altogether adapted for scholarly works. It does not publish reviews of books. Academic quality is guaranteed by the submission of each article to external referees. The deadline for addressing texts for inclusion in the coming edition is 31st March. The Scientific Committee is placed under the patronage of Nicolas Grimal (Professor of Egyptology at the Collège de France, member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres). It is composed of the Director of the IFAO, the Director of Studies, the Head of the Publications Department and the Publishing Director.
