Editorial guidelines

The Bulletin de l’Institut Français d’Études Andines is a multidisciplinary journal published three times a year that presents that presents original articles in the Social and Human Sciences in the Andean countries: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, mainly. It is addressed to a specialized public in each subject, but also to a wider public interested in the Andean area.

The sections of the IFEA Bulletin

In addition to feature articles (see below for recommendations to authors), the journal publishes “reviews”, which should not exceed 10,000 characters, as well as “research notes”, short texts with a maximum of 12,000 characters, including illustrations. This section contains, on the one hand, information on discoveries, interpretations, new approaches or techniques and, on the other hand, structured notes from researchers on their own results. Research notes will be evaluated by a specialist proposed by the editorial committee.

Recommendations to authors

Manuscripts should be sent in electronic format to the IFEA Bulletin editor by e-mail (vanessa.ponce-de-leon@cnrs.fr), with the request for publication:

1. Manuscript. The submitted articles must be unpublished, according to our editorial line, present a marked scientific rigor, not have been proposed in parallel to another journal or publishing house and deal with one or more of the countries of the Andean geographic area. Texts may be written in French, Spanish or English. They should not exceed 50,000 characters with spaces (including abstracts and keywords in the three languages, bibliography, legends and notes). Any footnotes should be grouped at the end of the text. Manuscripts should be accompanied by the name, last name, professional position, institutional address and e-mail address of the author(s). The title of the article, the abstract (approximately 700 characters) and the keywords (6 descriptors maximum) should be translated into the three languages.

2. Illustrations (maps, figures, tables, photos, etc.). All illustrations, numbered and marked in the text, must be submitted in black and white, in their final form, in computer support and as an image file (maps and figures in vector format); they must be identified with a number and the author’s last name. They must have a title, an explanatory caption of up to 150 characters, as well as the sources and/or credits. Photos must be sent in high resolution; slides are not accepted. Maps, plans and diagrams must include the graphic scale, orientation and a legend. Illustrations that are not the property of the authors of the articles must have the authorization of use and reproduction for the Bulletin, granted in writing by the persons and/or entities that hold the copyright. If necessary, the photographer’s authorization must also be obtained. These authorizations can be sent to the journal’s editor by e-mail.

3. Bibliography. The bibliography should include all references cited in the text and only these. Bibliographical references are presented at the end of the article, in an alphabetical list. Journal titles and organization names should be given in full (acronyms are not allowed). References should be presented in the format indicated below:

4. Calls in the text. The calls are made as follows: ... (author[s], year: page cited). If there are more than 3 authors, the last name of the first author + et al. must be mentioned.

5. Evaluation. The IFEA submits the evaluation of the manuscripts to peers external to the institution. In each case and for each scientific discipline, the members of the editorial committee designate two evaluators, who must fill out a detailed form with specific questions (they also have the possibility to introduce comments on the manuscript itself). This report is sent to the authors, who will make the corrections they deem appropriate. In case of disagreement with the suggestions received, the authors must justify their position in writing. The corrected versions are submitted to a second evaluation by the same reviewers for their final judgment.

IMPORTANT: The journal reserves the right to ultimately reject an article, even if it has been accepted by both reviewers, in the event of a proven problem (parallel publication in another support, plagiarism, etc.) or for non-compliance with the editorial code of ethics.

The IFEA no longer sends physical offprints. Each author will receive the final version of his/her article in PDF format. Any manuscript that does not comply with the above instructions will be returned to the authors (without being evaluated) so that they can make the necessary modifications.
