Guide for Authors

Haut de page1. Submitting an article
The submission of an article, in French or in English, can be done within the framework of a call for contribution for a thematic volume or as a free proposal at any time.
An article submitted to Cahiers François Viète must be unpublished and not have been submitted to another journal, another publisher, or any other publication structure, whether digital or paper.
All articles submitted will be evaluated based at least on a double blind expertise: see the charter for all the information related to the expert review and the revision of the articles.
1.1 Guidelines to be taken into account
For all submissions, authors should:
-
write their text using the Word page type or LaTeX files, which contain the main basics of the editing format;
-
ensure that the text respects the journal’s guidelines (to be downloaded below);
-
read the publication and evaluation charter presented in these guidelines;
-
and accept the terms in the space provided in the “File of information and follow-up of an article”, to be completed and sent with the proposed article to cahiers-francois-viete@univ-nantes.fr
All the necessary documents can be downloaded below. The same documents, in French, can be downloaded from the French version of this page.
1.2. Admissibility of the article
Upon receipt of the article, the editorial board (for a “varia” article) or the volume editors (for an article submitted for a thematic volume) performs an initial analysis of the text by checking:
-
the relevance of the proposal in relation to the themes and objectives of the journal (and of the volume),
-
the scientific rigour of the proposal,
-
the editorial quality,
-
the conformity with the presentation standards of the journal,
-
the presence of all the elements requested (abstracts, keywords...),
-
the use of the standard documents of the journal.
Any proposal received that does not sufficiently meet the scientific requirements and standards of the journal will not be considered.
For eligible proposals, the evaluation will be based at least on a double-blind expert review: see the charter for all the information related to the expertise and the follow-up of the articles.

2. Proposal for a thematic volume
2.1. How to submit a proposal
As the volumes are thematic, it is possible to submit a project at any time by filling in the document “Proposal of file” which can be downloaded below.
The proposal can be in French or in English. If the proposal is in French, at least one of the editors must be French-speaking.
The Editorial Board reviews and selects proposals at its meetings, which are held twice a year, in spring and autumn. The proposal must be sent to the Editorial Board (cahiers-francois-viete@univ-nantes.fr) by 31 March for the spring meeting and by 30 September for the autumn meeting.
The Editorial Board may accept a proposal as it stands, suggest changes or reject it.
2.2. Important information concerning the editorial process
Articles submitted in the thematic volumes will be evaluated according to the double blind review procedure. Two referents from the editorial board will organise the reviews, and the referees chosen may not be authors of the thematic volume.
An accepted thematic volume requires one and a half to two years of preparation, taking into account the six-monthly programming of the issues and, above all, the editorial phases to be implemented by the editors and the editorial board.
Assisted by two members of the editorial board, the editors will carry out the following tasks:
-
drafting the text of the call for papers (if applicable), which they will have validated by the editorial board, its distribution as well as the organisation of the collection of articles,
-
pre-selecting the articles, determining whether they are admissible and correspond to the theme and problematic of their volume,
-
communicating with the authors throughout the editorial process,
-
drafting an introduction that clearly presents the problematic of the dossier by showing the various facets of the question under consideration, and possibly the differences in perspective, or even the tensions between the various contributions. It should also situate the contributions in the context of current work in the field and highlight their originality.
The editorial board carries out the following tasks:
-
the selection of experts on the basis of a list submitted by the publishers and the organisation of the expert appraisals,
-
the validation of the volume,
-
the layout and formal proofreading of the volume,
-
the publication of the digital version of the volume, the printing and dispatch of the paper copies.
The scientific editing of a thematic dossier is an important and time-consuming task: it is essential that the editors take this into account. In particular, it is up to the editors to ensure the coherence of the dossier, to suggest modifications to the various authors and to contact the editorial committee's contact person as soon as possible in case of difficulty or doubt. The publication of a volume may indeed be jeopardised if this editing work is not carried out in a consistent and rigorous manner.
