Procedure for Evaluation and Selection of Texts

Articles submitted must be original research, not previously published in another journal or medium, and must not have been published in another language or presented in another journal or medium.

For monographic dossiers, the dossier editor proposes the contributors. A call for contributions is also published on the Catalonia website, for external contributions. The issue editor accepts or rejects these proposals for external contributions (abstract).

All articles are then blindly evaluated by two peers proposed by the issue editor.

The editorial board verifies the neutrality and competence of the reviewers and has the right to refuse an article that does not meet the scientific requirements of the journal: high scientific quality, high linguistic quality and high writing quality, bibliographic richness, use of equal and non-discriminatory language.

For the varia and open issues ("Miscellanies"), the journal publishes a call for contributions on the Catalonia website. The editorial board evaluates the article proposals and validates or rejects them, and appoints reviewers for accepted proposals. Each article is blindly evaluated by two peers.

Some articles are based on papers presented at SEC seminars (Séminaire des Études Catalanes, axe Études Catalanes, CRIMIC). In this case, the editorial board proposes reviewers and the papers are evaluated blind by two peers.

Editorial Policy

Statement on Publication Ethics and Misconduct

Catalonia, as an academic journal, is fully committed to promoting ethical conduct during the publishing process, affecting editors, reviewers and authors, and based on the principles laid down by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Editorial Board and Editors

The editorial board of Catalonia and editors have full responsibility, authority and independence when accepting or rejecting manuscripts and requesting modifications, and will act, in every instance, with regard to the confidentiality of the content and authorship of the articles.

The editorial board and editors must make sure that manuscripts submitted must be original research, not previously published in any other journal or medium; they must not have been published in another language or submitted simultaneously to another journal or medium. The journal uses a plagiarism detection system.

The editorial board and editors uphold the quality of all content in the journal by carrying out external reviews done by experts. Editorial board preserve the anonymity of authors and reviewers.

The editorial board and editors guarantee the acceptance or rejection of papers taking into account only the academic value and intellectual content of the text, without factoring in the ethnic origin, gender, sex, sexual orientation, religion, nationality or political orientation of its authors, as well as their experience, category and academic filiation.

Editorial board must publish erratum or make the pertinent corrections when necessary.

The authors must guarantee that they have written a piece that is completely original, that their manuscript has not been published before nor been submitted, concomitantly, to more than one publication.

Papers submitted should be signed by the author and by anyone else who has played a significant role in the research that the paper is reporting on.

The authors indicate in the text whether the study has received some kind of funding.

The authors must identify all the information sources that were utilized in the creation of their manuscript. They must attest that all the data of their article are real and authentic.

The authors guarantee that permission has been obtained to use any kind of material that may complement the text of the paper (images, tables, diagrams, etc.) and they provide it to the editors.

Reviews should be carried out objectively. They should express their opinions on manuscripts appropriately and justify their conclusions.

The reviewers must guarantee the confidentiality of all the information regarding the articles.

The reviewers ensure that papers include the most important bibliographic references on the topic discussed. They should also inform editors about any similarities detected between the text under review and other works.

The reviewers will accept articles only if they believe that they have the correct skills on that specific topic, and if they consider they have the amount of time needed to perform the task within the timetables determined by the journal.
