Presentation and history
Presentation
The Bucema, Bulletin du Centre d'études médiévales d'Auxerre, is a peer-reviewed scientific journal focusing on medieval studies.
Following the principle of promoting open access research in progress, the Bucema emphasizes the interdisciplinarity between human and social sciences, as well as natural sciences and mathematics. It aims to publish contributions offering new methods, reporting on experiences in digital humanities and new technologies, and questioning the epistemological and conceptual implications of research on the Middle-Ages. It also features in-depth studies and reviews in the fields of archaeology, history and history of art, and offers insight on the most recent research.
In addition to unprecedented articles, the Bucema also publishes interviews, bibliographical essays, points of view, notes on important discoveries, communications on current projects (archaeological, historical, archival, iconographic...), summaries of theses and dissertations and of the latest scientific meetings, as well as announcement of new research programs and upcoming meetings.
The Bucema also publishes special issues and two collections related to research programs: “CBMA – Chartae Burgundiae Medii Aevi” and “Histoire de l’art et Anthropologie” (“History of art and Anthropology”).
Oriented towards the international scientific community, the Bucema accepts contributions in different languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese.
History
First published in 1999, the Bucema first started as an annual bulletin meant for the members of the Centre d’études médiévales d’Auxerre. It quickly became a key player in promoting scientific activity and the intermediate results of projects led by the Artehis Medievalists team (first UMR 5594, and since 2012 UMR 6298). In 2006, it was hosted by the electronic publishing platform Revues.org. In addition to annual issues, special issues and collections related to ongoing projects were also published. In 2009, the Bucema received the support of CNRS-InSHS. In 2012, it was restructured to become a peer-reviewed journal, published exclusively in electronic format.
The paper versions of the Bucema’s front covers (from 1998 to 2011) are available here. This link can also be used to find the electronic versions of issues #7 (2003) to #15 (2011).
