Rules applicable to the editorial board

Quality of the publication

The editorial board seeks, by applying the rules outlined below, to guarantee the scientific quality of the journal. It aims to assure a regular renewal of its peer reviewers (ad hoc editorial committee) as well as the renewal of its own members, in order to ensure adherence to professional publishing standards. The affiliations of the editors and of the members of the editorial board are available on the website of the journal.

Relations with authors

Selection of articles to be published is based solely on their intellectual and scientific content, and the editorial board is vigilant concerning any possibility of discrimination. The editorial board takes into account in its decisions legal requirements concerning libel, violation of copyright and plagiarism. The procedure to follow when submitting an article to the journal is specified in a document available on the website of the journal. Authors are not charged any submission or article-processing fees by the journal.

Relations with peer reviewers

The editorial board guarantees the anonymity of the peer reviewers it solicits.

Behavior contrary to the ethics of the publication

The editorial board is under an obligation to identify and prevent any behavior which is not consistent with the ethics policy of the publication. It is committed to initiating an investigation of any complaint lodged against the journal. The author, for his or her part, is committed to answering any claim of malpractice. The editorial board must also be prepared to publish corrections, apologies and clarifications if necessary.

Responsibility of peer reviewers

Responsibility of the members of the editorial committee in charge of the review process

Peer reviewers are selected on the basis of their intellectual and scientific expertise. They should evaluate submissions objectively, solely on the basis of their content.

Opinions expressed should be objective.

Peer reviewers are expected to signal any articles bearing a striking similarity to the article under consideration.

Peer reviewers are also expected to signal any significant publication bearing on the subject of the article which has not been cited.

Review Process

Except for book reviews, which are evaluated by the editorial board, articles submitted to the journal go through a process of double-blind peer review: the author does not know the identity of the persons responsible for reviewing the article, and the reviewers do not know the identity of the authors. Each article is reviewed by at least two or three reviewers.

In case of doubt or a divergence of views in the review of an article, other opinions can be solicited by the editorial board.

Articles contrary to the editorial policy of the journal can, furthermore, be refused by the editorial board. A written justification of the decision will automatically be sent to the author.

On the basis of the opinions of the peer reviewers, the editorial board adopts one of the following decisions, within a maximum of six months after reception of the manuscript:

  • Acceptance as submitted
  • Rejection
  • Acceptance on condition of modifications

In the third case, the final decision as to whether to accept or reject the article is made by the editorial board on the basis of their evaluation of the extent to which the author has taken into account the suggestions and comments made by the reviewers.

Any text accepted for publication, on first submission, or after modifications, goes through an editing process in collaboration with the author. The final version of an article is approved for publication by both parties.

In any case, the editorial board takes into account in its decisions its legal obligations in terms of libel, violation of copyright and plagiarism.

Conflict of Interest

The members of the editorial board and the peer reviewers must recuse themselves in case of any conflict of interest involving one of the authors or the content of the manuscript to be evaluated.

Furthermore, a potential reviewer should withdraw from the review process if he/she feels unqualified to assess the contribution or cannot provide an assessment in a timely manner as defined by the editor.

Impartiality

Manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of their intellectual or scientific content, without any form of discrimination.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts for review must be considered confidential documents. No information concerning a manuscript submitted to the journal should be revealed to persons other than the author, potential peer reviewers and, if necessary, the editor.

Use of Information

The information presented in articles submitted to the journal must not be used before their publication in research carried out by a member of the editorial committee or a peer reviewer, without the explicit written consent of the author.

Responsibility of Authors

Originality and plagiarism

Authors must guarantee the originality of their work and abstain from publishing any text which could be considered as fraudulent according to the definition of this concept by the Code governing intellectual property. Fraudulent and knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. Anti-plagiarism software (Compilatio) can be used by the journal in case of doubt.

Multiple, Redundant or concurrent publication

Authors commit themselves to not submitting any article previously published in another journal or a new article based exclusively on work published elsewhere.

In the same way, authors commit themselves to not submitting the same article to several journals at the same time.

It is possible to publish the translation of an article published in another language in another publication provided that the author has obtained the authorization of the journal or the editor of the work.

Acknowledgment of sources

All citations (or use of the research of other authors) must be identified, accompanied by the appropriate references and presented according to the stylesheet used by the journal.

Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, must not be used without making every effort to obtain the authorization of the persons providing the information.

Authorship of the paper

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the study presented in the text submitted to the journal or in the writing of the text. All of the authors should be mentioned in alphabetical order with their institutional affiliation or according to the extent of their involvement in the study and in the writing of the text. The author who is in contact with the journal must ensure that only the appropriate co-authors are included in the list of authors and that all of the co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Libel

Authors commit themselves to respecting, in submitted articles, the rules of scientific debate and to avoiding potentially libelous statements that could be interpreted as attacks on the reputation of another person.

Conflicts of interest

All authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflict of interest. All sources of private financing obtained in view of carrying out the research presented in the text submitted must be explicitly mentioned.

Errors

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the editorial board and cooperate with them in order to publish a correction, or even retract the article. If the editorial board or the editor of the journal learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, it is the obligation of the author to promptly retract or correct the paper or to provide evidence of the correctness of the original paper.

Digital publication

Upon submitting an article, the authors accept its publication in a digital format via OpenEdition.

Open Archives

Since authors do not give exclusive rights to the journal, they are free to post the final version of the manuscript accepted for publication in an open archive (such as HAL) or in their university repository (a permanent platform that can be consulted by anyone without restriction). Authors may apply a Creative Commons license (CC BY 4.0) as soon as their article is published in les Cahiers de littérature orale, provided that they give the complete bibliographical reference to the publication in les Cahiers de littérature orale.

Academic social networks (like ResearchGate or Academia.edu) are not open archives or institutional repositories: the article must be posted in an open archive or institutional repository, in particular for reasons of perennity.
