LLACAN

Founded in 1994, the laboratory of Langage, Langues et Cultures d’Afrique Noire (LLACAN) is a joint research unit of CNRS and Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO). It is also a member of the EFL Labex, and is affiliated since its foundation to the CNRS Federation on language typology and universals (FR 2559). Since its inception, the scientific activity of LLACAN is based on the collection and analysis of textual and lexical data in a large number of African languages. In recent years, several projects of corpus and data collections have emerged. Among them the “Encyclopedia of literature in African languages” project (ELLAf) proposes the creation of an Internet site for documentation and research on literature in African languages. Complete literary texts or extracts, with their translation in French and/or in English, will be presented online, with the aim of clarifying the contextualization of each text and the circumstances of creation and/or performance, while defining the literary genre whose type it fits.
