Comics : an art without memory? | 2017
Edited by Benoît Berthou

What is the mode of inscription in the time of the comic strip? According to Thierry Groensteen who qualifies the comic strip as “art without memory”, the question settles: “the comic strip is an art which cultivates gladly the amnesia and does not have big concern of its heritage” (La bande dessinée : un objet non identifié, L’An 2, our translation). We suggest questioning this report by studying institutions and organizations that inscribe comics strips in time (school, university, book market, library, museums, critic...) or by analysing the importance of history or memory in the process of creating comics.
