Comicalités uses the following guidelines and practices with respect to publication ethics, which are based on the Core Practices and Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors’ responsibilities

Authors must submit original work only that has not been published elsewhere - exceptions may apply for a variety of outputs (e.g. preprints, blog articles, working papers, translations). Authors are responsible for securing rights or permissions to reproduce images and for formatting the manuscript as requested in the journal’s policies and Instruction for Authors.

All credited authors must have substantially contributed to the research. Co-author(s) must have consented to be listed as such by the corresponding author. 

Peer reviewers’ responsibilities

Peer reviewers are not to disclose the text submitted to them to any third party. They are required to alert the journal’s editorial board of any perceived or actual conflict of interest. The editorial board will decide whether the reviewer should decline the peer review request.

Peer reviewers are required to assess the paper solely on the basis of its contents.

Editorial responsibilities

The editorial board has complete responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article. Articles can be rejected if they do not adhere or respect the journal’s policies and ethical guidelines.

Research integrity

Comicalités seeks to contribute to and maintain the integrity of the knowledge record of the field in which it publishes. This means identifying and preventing the publishing of papers where research misconduct has occurred. This includes, but is not limited to, the following forms of research misconduct: plagiarism, false attribution of authorship, and citation manipulation, i.e. requests to add citations that “do not contribute to the scholarly content” of the paper and/or are “merely self-promotional”.

In case of clear research misconduct or problematic issues of research integrity, Comicalités may, after careful consideration and possible investigation with relevant stakeholders, decide to stop the publishing process of an article, regardless of the peer reviewers’ reports and recommendations concerning said article. In extreme cases, Comicalités reserves the right to retract an article that has already been published.
