This special issue is dedicated to the publication of five sources testifying to the reception of foreign travellers at the Bourbon court and accompanies the release of the book Voyageurs étrangers à la cour de France, 1589-1789 : regards croisés, edited by Caroline zum Kolk, Jean Boutier, Bernd Klesmann and François Moureau, Rennes/Versailles, Presses Universitaires de Rennes / Centre de Recherche du Château de Versailles, ‘Histoire’ collection, ‘Aulica. L'Univers de la cour’ series. September 2014, 16.5 x 24 cm, 392 p., 18 black and white ill., 14 colour plates, index, €22 (ISBN: 978-2-7535-3483-4).

This book and the five sources published here present the result of research on European travellers to the court of France during the time of the Bourbons, ‘Voyageurs européens à la cour de France au temps des Bourbons (1594-1789) – regards croisés’ coordinated by Caroline zum Kolk as part of the programme ‘Foreigners at the French court during the time of the Bourbons (1594–1789): strategies, contributions, suspicions’ (2011–13), and presented a the international symposium organized by the Centre de Recherche du Château de Versailles on 31 January-1 February 2013 at the German Historical Institute (IHA) in Paris.
