Le théâtre des nations : courtisans étrangers à la cour de France au temps des Bourbons (1594-1789) presents the results of the three-year research programme (2011-2013) titled “Foreigners at the Bourbon Court of France (1594-1789). Strategies, Transfers, Suspicion”, launched by the Centre de recher­che du châ­teau de Versailles, and more specifically, the research focus “Foreign courtiers at the Bourbon Court (1594-1789)”supervised by Jean-François Dubost, professor at the université Paris-Est Créteil Val-de-Marne.

This joint publication brings together the conference papers of two study days:
- “What Constitutes a ‛Foreigner’ in the French Court? Redefinition and Affirmation of a Social Grouping in the France of Louis XIV”, 8-9 December 2011, Château de Versailles
- “The Movement of Foreigners at the Bourbon Court of France”, 12 April 2013, Château de Versailles
