La disparition trompeuse du chamanisme de l'Amour
This book focusses on the way the Nanai adjust and transform their religious practices without shamans. This work is based on fieldwork investigations undertaken in the Amur region between 2011 and 2015. It deals with myths, rites, Christianity, embroideries and heritage. The changes in the interpretation of myths are treated first to understand how the Nanai deal with a changing world. Strategies of adaptation of religious practices are addressed next through conversions to Christianity, which shows intricacies of religious continuity and discontinuity. Eventually, embroidery allows the analysis of the creations of visual identities in the context of the heritagization of minorities in Russia. The plasticity of tradition and its reconstructive dynamic highlight nanai strategies of reaction, assimilation and reinvention of tradition.
