Presentation
Since the 1970’s and 80’s research regarding photography has developed exponentially. It has taken fluctuating and sometimes divergent paths: semiotic, aesthetic, sociological and historic… It has also accompanied in different ways the tendency towards an institutional or commercial recognition of the medium and the changes it has undergone in this digital era.
Freely available on-line, the review Focales is today aiming to fill a gap: it seeks to host open and varied theoretical approaches, relating to questions being posed more widely in the fields of art and human sciences. While focusing on photography, the review aims nevertheless to avoid being exclusively restricted to one field of study, in the manner that new technologies today combine movement and sound with visual representation. Focales will be a forum of exchange and of collective diffusion and production of knowledge, a space for researchers but also photographers, artists and enthusiasts.
