Textométrie et temporalité
A wide range of high-performance computer tools for analysing textual corpora are now available to researchers. They have led to new approaches that are transforming the comprehension of texts by providing access to elements previously hidden from view. These software tools produce rapid results, but few illustrative examples and analyses are available to satisfy our curiosity about the rich content of our own textual heritage. The articles featured in this issue seek to fill this gap. In this special issue, the journal again addresses the challenges of measuring the written word through the interplay of disciplines involved in analysis of historical corpora. But this time it focuses on the exploration of a single question, that of textual time-series analysis, a field in which interaction between linguists, IT specialists, statisticians and historians remains limited. This volume contributes to formalizing reflection and dialogue on the time dimension of texts in their various forms. While priority is given to techniques that have now become “standard”, more innovative approaches are not forgotten, and all reveal particular aspects of lexical time: evolution, chronology, cyclicality, changes of meaning and perception of time by the actors involved.
