Plan
Haut de pageIdeAs. Idées d'Amériques is a biannual international journal with an international reading committee inviting its contributors to think about the Americas as a whole, by considering connections and circulations on the scale of the continent. The proposed texts, which should be original, can be written in the four main languages spoken in the Americas: French, English, Spanish or Portuguese.
As a reminder
- All submissions and contributions must respect the submission principles and editorial standards corresponding to each type of contributions (available online here). The editorial board reserves the right not to consider any submission that does not meet these criteria.
- The journal IdeAs - Idées d'Amériques does not accept articles submitted individually
Thematic dossier
We encourage researchers interested in the approaches and format of the journal to submit proposals (IdeAs does not accept individual submissions). These should be accompanied by (your choice):
- a scientific position paper (one page maximum);
- a list of at least ten unpublished articles and short bio-bibliographical notes of the authors contacted for the dossier – the list that can be eventually completed by a call for contributions.
The main dossier will include a maximum of fifteen articles.
Timetable for the submission of dossiers
Each year, proposals are reviewed by the editorial board in January/February or June/July. Proposals should therefore be sent to the journal's editorial secretary, Matthieu Baudry (recherche[at]institutdesameriques.fr) and the 2 co-editors, Françoise Martinez (francoise.martinez[at]sorbonne-universite.fr) and Hélène Quanquin (helene.quanquin[at]univ-lille.fr).
Coordination of the dossier
All submissions must be submitted by two editors (must be PhD researchers, one for the United States/Canada and the other for Latin America) who agree to follow the process from submission to publication according to the timetable indicated by the journal and in close collaboration with the editorial board. If there are more than two coordinators, the journal asks that they designate 2 people who will communicate with the editorial board throughout the preparation of the issue.
All submissions must ensure parity of articles between the United States/Canada and Latin America.
Role of the editors
The articles in the dossier must be submitted for review, taking into account the editorial guidelines available online on the journal's website: https://ideas.revues.org/1355
The coordinators agree to reread each article before sending it for evaluation and check if it meets our editorial guidelines (theme of the article, number of characters, inclusion of titles, abstracts and keywords in three languages, presentation of intratextual references and the bibliography).
The editors agree to write an introduction that will not exceed 20,000 characters (spaces and references included). If they wish, they can also write a "state of the art," analyzing the latest publications on the theme of the dossier.
The editors propose a royalty-free visual for the cover of the issue to the editorial board at least one month before the publication of the issue.
The editorial board makes the final decision to publish the submitted articles based on the feedback and the importance of the revisions to be undertaken.
Mini-dossier Éclairages "Focus"
It is also possible to submit to IdeAs proposals for mini-dossiers, directly related to cultural, social or political current events in the Americas at the time of the publication of the two issues (September/October and February/March).
Coordination of the dossier
The Mini-dossier Éclairages "Focus" can be edited by one or two scholars – a team of tenured scholars or doctoral student/tenured scholar (starting in 2021). The editor of the "Éclairages" dossier agrees to follow the whole process, from the submission of the application to its publication online, in accordance with IdeAs' editorial guidelines. Proposals must be submitted at least six months prior to the publication of the issue and the dossiers must be submitted in a complete form, duly reviewed by the editor, one month before the publication of the issue. The IdeAs editorial committee reserves the right to refuse submissions that include too many articles, articles that are too long or with too many bibliographical references.
Format of the dossier
These dossiers are composed of a general introduction of 3,000-5,000 characters (including spaces and references) and a minimum of three articles and a maximum of seven not exceeding 15,000 characters each (including spaces and references).
The files do not require an abstract, they must contain a majority of articles in French and may include a few articles written in English, Spanish or Portuguese that do not require translation into another language. They include at most a dozen bibliographical references. The articles published express only the opinion of their authors and are not binding on the editors.
Proposals or requests for information should be sent to Matthieu Baudry, in charge of publishing and the IdeAs journal (recherche[at]institutdesameriques.fr), Françoise Martinez, editor-in-chief (francoise.martinez[at]sorbonne-universite.fr) and Hélène Quanquin, editor-in-chief (helene.quanquin[at]univ-lille.fr).
Interviews
Each issue includes an Interview section, which highlights personal experiences related to political, social and cultural events in the Americas, and often related to the themes addressed in the dossiers of each issue.
The Interviews section is a space of freedom of expression, in the sense that they can be conducted in a free manner, both in the choice of language (French, English, Spanish and Portuguese) and in the format (interview with one person or more, iconography that can be published along the interview, etc.). It is preceded by a short synthetic introduction justifying the interest of its realization and its publication.
Coordination of interviews
Interviews can be conducted by one person or in pairs. The authors of each interview agree to follow up on the request until it is published online, in accordance with IdeAs' editorial guidelines.
Interview format
The recommended length is 15,000 to 30,000 characters (including spaces and references).
