In Monte Artium: Journal of the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) is a peer reviewed, open access scholarly journal devoted to all fields of scientific research regarding the Royal Library of Belgium’s collections and activities from an interdisciplinary perspective. Published since 2008, the journal has four core focus areas: the objects, content, context and methodologies linked with KBR’s collections. A special emphasis is put on any topic related to Belgium, to a Belgian person or to a non-Belgian person linked in any way with Belgium, on digital humanities and on making research results accessible to everyone.

KBR holds more than 8 million documents from a wide of types: manuscripts, printed books, archive material, iconographic documents, engraved plates, comics, newspapers, correspondence, maps and plans, music scores, sound recordings, audiovisual materials, digital data, objects, coins and medals. KBR’s activities include: a permanent museum devoted to manuscripts and culture of the Renaissance Low Countries, temporary thematic exhibitions and a broad range cultural, educational and scientific activities including concerts, conferences, workshops and colloquia.

From a methodological point of view, In Monte Artium aims to combines both professional issues from library and information science, in particular from a national library perspective, with the scientific and interdisciplinary study of (digital) cultural heritage. Within the Belgian context In Monte Artium is uniquely positioned and aims to both deepen the knowledge and increase the interest of such heritage.
