Information for Authors

  • research articles that are previously unpublished in Portuguese or Spanish (up to 10,000 words, including bibliography);

  • essays (up to 3,750 words including bibliography, in Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 cm line spacing);

All manuscripts should observe the following format: Word for Windows, Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 cm line spacing, A4 page size.

The journal uses a double-blind peer review system. Manuscripts are first evaluated by the Editorial Board for their pertinence for publication and then by two ad hoc reviewers for their fit with the journal’s profile, their content, and their quality. When the opinions of these reviews diverge, a third reviewer’s opinion is sought. The Editorial Board takes the final decision based on the reviewers’ recommendations, which may be one of three options: “accepted without revisions”, “accepted with revisions” or “not accepted”. The editors reserve the right not to publish manuscripts accepted with revisions, depending on the nature and extent of the revisions recommended by reviewers.

Original manuscripts in Portuguese and Spanish are accepted.

Publishing Guidelines

1. Research articles and essays should be accompanied by 300-word abstracts in Portuguese and English as well as three author keywords. Authors should submit them together with their professional data (institution, state, country, job title, and academic title) without abbreviations as well as their postal and email addresses and a telephone number.

2. Reviews of Brazilian works published up to two years previously and of international works published up to five years previously will be considered for publication.

3. Footnotes should be used sparingly to provide additional information on the text. Citations should not be included in footnotes, but be included in the text itself in the following format: author surname in capital letters, year of publication, page number, as in the following example: (CASSIRER, 1979, p.46).

4. Tables, maps, figures, and graphics should be included in the body of the text.

5. Citations written in languages other than Portuguese or Spanish should be translated.

6. The journal has its own referencing style. References should be listed at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order and observe the formats shown in the following examples, paying attention to punctuation, spacing, and use of italics and capitals.
