Interventions économiques / Papers in Political Economy is a peer-reviewed scientific journal founded in 1978 under the title Interventions critiques en économie politique by a group of young economists. It adopted its current name in the 1980s and was affiliated with the Association d’économie politique.
After a hiatus between 1997 and 2002, the journal resumed publication in open-access electronic format in 2002. Initially hosted by TÉLUQ, it has been part of the OpenEdition Journals platform since 2010, and joined the Érudit platform in 2023 to enhance its visibility and discoverability.
The journal addresses academic researchers as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations interested in theoretical and practical debates surrounding collective action, economic regulation, and contemporary socio-economic transformations.
Its mission is to advance knowledge in political economy, encourage scientific dialogue, and promote an economy attentive to social realities.
Content and scope
Interventions économiques publishes scientific articles, research notes, debate essays, scholarly interviews, and book reviews.
It features two main types of issues:
-
Thematic issues, coordinated by guest editors, including a call for papers, at least five research articles, and one or two related interviews;
-
Varia issues, gathering independent articles within the journal’s scope.
All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two external reviewers (three when reports are contradictory).
The journal primarily publishes in French, but also accepts articles in English and occasionally in Spanish, always in their original version.
Main research areas
As the only French-language political economy journal in Canada, Interventions économiques focuses on three interrelated fields:
-
Heterodox economic theory and analysis;
-
Socio-economic transformations in contemporary societies (labour, employment, digitalization, inequalities, care, public policy, etc.);
-
International political economy, addressing globalization, regionalism, trade, and sustainable development.
